Energy-Boosting Fall is here! My Favorite Season of All! And the Perfect Time to Start YOUR ADHD Personal Owner’s Manual (POM!)

Happy October! Fall is my favorite season. Apple picking and cooler temps means I finally get to break out my sweaters and boots. Wooohooo!

My energy is always up in the fall and I like to capitalize on that by creating more products and tools.

My focus this fall is on supporting everyone that wants a Personal Owner’s Manual to start making one!

INSPIRATION: October is ADHD Awareness Month. I am also declaring it “Make a POM Month!” If you follow me on Instagram (ADHD_POM) I am sharing tips throughout the month of October to start YOUR Personal Owner’s Manual (POM).

Personal Owner’s Manual Tip: The first step to making a Personal Owner’s Manual is to pick whether you want a physical POM (ex:, notebook) or digital POM (ex: word doc). You can always change it up after you use it for a bit, but if you don’t start, you won’t know which will work best for you.

ADHD-Friendly Tip… Your Personal Owner’s Manual will only become a powerful tool to support your unique brain wiring when you capture things in it that work for YOU. If you list things that work for other people, it isn’t going to serve you (and will likely end up on a shelf covered in dust).

When you use YOUR POM to capture what DOES work for you, it will become your template to success. A personal example of something that works for me and is included in my POM is: Since I am so visual, I created a sparkly way to store my POM and my POM supplies (flags, tab dividers, tape, etc.). I call it my Mobile POM Cart. It checks all the boxes in terms of what is needed for me to successfully connect with it when I need to:

  1. Visible- I can see it.
  2. Accessible- I can easily reach it. I don’t need to open a drawer or search through a bookshelf. I can also move it around if I want to work on it somewhere besides my desk.
  3. Flexible- I can change how I have organized the shelves and the materials I store on it.

Here is what is on my Mobile POM Cart:

  • Top Shelf: All the supplies I use when I add to my POM are in a removable tray. (ex: post-it notes and flags, markers, pens, stickers, clear page protectors, paper, highlighters, tape and scissors.)
  • Middle Shelf: This is my POM’s home. When I am not using it, this is where my POM lives.
  • Bottom Shelf: This is where I keep my BOM (Business Owner’s Manual). I keep all of the systems and tools I use to support my business in my BOM.

Having everything in one place makes it easier for me to use my POM- and add to it. Where will you keep YOUR POM (so you see it and can easily access it)?

Remember: your POM needs to be visible, accessible and flexible for it to really support you to use it!
